Croydon Girls Cricket Hub

FBA are hugely excited to announce the launch of our new Croydon Girls Cricket Hub, in partnership with Coloma Convent Girls School – the only girls state high school in the borough!

Thanks to the enthusiasm of Holly Budd, Head of Physical Education, and Head Teacher Elizabeth Englefield, FBA Girls Cricket Hub launches in January 2022. We will be providing a weekly after-school club for Coloma pupils and an evening session for all females aged 8-18 years, beginners to experienced – the perfect run-up to the outdoor season.

Why a Girls Only Hub? Cricket is one of many hugely male dominated sports, yet as well we know through the successes in national women’s cricket, there is plenty of potential and opportunity out there! Boys will often start cricket at a younger age, meaning older girls feel out of their depth in their own age group, or ridiculously big joining ability based training with younger kids. There are many reasons some girls feel more comfortable training without boys around and we want to ensure all girls have the opportunity to thrive. At FBA, we see quick results and expect our Members, with determination and a great attitude to see fast improvement in their cricket skills and confidence.I’ve read enough – I’m ready to SIGN UP!

By offering a supportive coaching environment throughout all of our sessions, we expect many of our all-girl Members to join our other FBA Academy training sessions which are open to all (our regular FBA girls always enjoy taking the boys down a peg or two!). But, these girl-only sessions will help increase the confidence and talent of our female players and generate a great ethic for league, school and club matches from 2022 onward.

Coloma is in a great location to welcome girls from across the borough. We’ll be running Girls Academy training on Wednesday evenings and a weekly after-school club for Coloma pupils on Fridays.
